Hi there

After a warm goodbye at Schiphol, the travel began. We had to repack our obese suitcases because they had a little overweight. We had a little delay at Schiphol because of the fog. Though we didn’t miss any flight.
During the flight towards London, there were such pretty clouds, as if Dali had been painting. The flight towards Barbados was pretty fine for Such a Long Flight. We watched Hangover 2, Horrible Bosses and Harry Potter, had nice meals. My moviescreen, which was attached on the chair in front of me, had a kind of rumble pack because of the guy in front of me was moving so much while talking.
When we came out of the airplane at Barbados airport, we walked into an unbelievable warmth. In the morning, on this very same day, we were still walking trough the fog and cold and finding it crazy we were walking in summerjackets and linen pants. But at the airport I was fine in my shorts and without jacket. While we were sitting outside, enjoying (ginger root) beer, Anthony and his mum(Anneke) were saying we might meet some funny people. Only a moment later a guy in a suit named Jones walked towards us like a seagull and making bird noises. When he started talking to us, asking what we were drinking, very amazing teeth appeared (huge, missing, bright, happy).
We arrived in St. Vincent last tuesday, local time 20:00. The flights went very well.

At St. Vincent airport we were picked up by a friend of Anthony’s dad(Roquel). We had a stop at the bar of his brothers. Then we drove towards the house. We drove along the house of another friend of Anthony’s dad(Gibson) who lives at the same hill. Then we drove along, uphill (very steep and slippy), passing bananaplants, papayatrees and lots of other exotic plants and arrived at the house. In our sleeping room we were welcomed by lizards jumping off the wall. We hung a mosquito net over our bed and had a very cold shower, and then went to bed. Baxter the dog (which looks a lot like Doerak, my dog) had been following us and slept in front of the door, underneath our window.

After our first night we woke up, and I was very amused by seeing a lizard(we called him Mr. Jones) relaxing on the wall in our sleeping room, and seeing the leaves of a palmtree (which looks a lot like an elephant trunk by the way) blowing in the wind. I could finally see how everything looks by daylight: Terrific, Amazing, Wonderful. Being located on almost the top of a hill, we have the most beautiful view at sea and the (tiny) islands, we’re surrounded by bush (coconut-trees, Jurassic Park alike plants, lime tree) birds and insects. A bird has made a nest in the ‘windgong/klingelingding’. We unpacked our suitcases and made our room cosy. Anthony’s been brooming outside to get rid of all the leaves and sand. He and his dad(Roger) hang up a warm-water showering system, so now we can have a hot shower as well! I’ve been grooming Baxter. For dinner, Anneke made pumpkin soup of a pumpkin from a garden downhill. Anthony and I made some kind of Mac ‘n Cheese. Then we sat down in the kind of living room. Here you have a pretty sight over sea, with a huge window, where the window seal is a bar. I saw my first firefly then, and sand flies saw my legs for the first time then, and, apparently, they found it very amusing to bite me. We were pretty tired, so we went to bed kind of early. But before we could sleep, mosquito’s had been broken into our mosquito-net and we had a mosquito war.

We woke up quite early on thursday, round six o’clock. Roger went to town to arrange internet and do some shopping, since we didn’t really have food in the house, except for crackers and candy. Anthony and I went down the hill to the beach and we had been swimming in the blue blue blue blue sea for 1,5 hours. At the (almost private)beach we collected some coral and saw flying fish and pelicans. The pelicans dive into the sea to catch fish, right above your head while you are swimming. The sand is both black (from the volcano) and white (because of a hurricane blew it there from another island). We got tanned/sunburned (however you like to see it). When we came home, a friend of Roger had brought us some nice vegetarian food, with tofu, lentils, baked banana and vegetables. Then Roger came back with stuff from the shop, including flour and eggs. So Anthony and I, after harvesting some lemons from the lemon tree by hitting them out with a stick, made a big chocolate chip muffin. There were friends visiting and they all liked it (together with their rum). Then we fixed up internet. Round 8 o’ clock in the evening, Gibson had his reggae band coming over for practising. Packed with lanterns and bats flying over our heads, we went there to see them playing. The band was practising outside on the veranda and played some of their own songs as well. Together with the band, Anthony played some very nice songs on the bass guitar, and I got to sing two lines with them. Underneath a sky full of stars we went back uphill and bumped into some really huge, fat bullfrogs. They were really really big. I guess you can compare their size best to a teapot.

Only kind of disturbing thingy here are all the insects. Ants walking away with food(which is also a good thing, since we don’t need a vacuum cleaner), mosquitos sucking, sandflies biting, termites destroying, flies tickling and HUGE HUGE moths scaring people…

The weather is so nice over here. Sometimes it rains a lot. And it’s very unbelievable, but it’s actually very nice, because it cools down for a bit.

While writing this blog, I’m having a cool breeze on my back and enjoying seeing Baxter leaning with his head on the doorstep, his eyes begging if he can ‘please come inside’. It’s great here.

Wauw wat een verhaal! Echt leuk om te lezen, ik probeer me voor te stellen hoe het daar is, het klinkt in ieder geval als een paradijsje :)

Misschien kunnen jullie een dier zoeken die al die beestjes weer op eet? Misschien Mr Jones of de Doerak look a like:p

    Genietse en groetjes aan allemaal!

    Yoshida (of Course):

It's your own fault that all these insects bite you all the time.
They're like: "Oh, she's a vegetarian, and we're animals, so she won't hurt us."
I suggest you get back at them by making your first pie a pork pie,
stuffed with a nice mixture of cockroaches, mosquitoes and butterflies and decorate the top with a couple of sausages.
You might want to put in a couple of ants for added flavour,
but easy on the red ones because they tend to taste kind of sour.
