Today the trip went on. On the schedule was a visit to a textile museum. In the first two rooms the performance of the fine handicraft was been shown by ladies making carpets, spinning wool and so on. We also saw how silk is been made. Very shocking to me: The caterpillars which make the silk, they are being killed. The silk is, namely , taken from the cocoon the caterpillar rolls itself into. The people put these cocoons in hot water. So that the very fine, but so strong dreads let go of the cocoon. The people put these dreads together and a fine dread forms. The caterpillars, though, are obviously dying because of the cooking water. The guide of the museum asked whether someone knew what they do with the bodies. They are being sent to France for the produce of make-up for they contain lots of protein! As well, he let someone out of our group taste a caterpillar. Afterwards he told: this is Turkish Viagra. Hmm. Then it is not so comfortable being in a group of people of the age of 55. Yugh! Then the guide said, to make it even harder, ‘ You have to swallow the caterpillar fast, else you get a stiff neck!’ Mwehh. Then the excursion only got worse and worse. We were collected in a dusty, tiny room and 60 carpets were being shown. It was not too interesting. And I found myself very lucky not being epileptic. All those patterns, colours, lightbulbs. Oewf. It was not stimulating me to buy a carpet, nope. So after the show was done, Rémar and I rushed out and had our first ice-cream. The sun was shining, the weather was great. After a very nice lunch and looking at some cute puppies we headed on towards Antalya. We went to an archaeological museum. It was a very tidy, good museum. Some statues, some fossils, some tombs, some coins, some clothing. That was it. Very nice, not too big, not too uninteresting.
As the day came to an end, the last thing we did was seeing a waterfall. Very touristic, and I wasn’t touched by it.. . ..We took some pictures and wanted to go, but Turkish men took pictures too. When we went walking back to the bus, the Turkish men were showing plates with pictures of us on the plates. I was so stunned, how the whatever did I ended upon this plate?! My oh My.
The hotel in Antalya was fine, loose from the aeroplanes which passed every 5 minutes. This gave a weird dimension while we were watching the news about the attacks in Libia.
Anyway, finally we were in a kind of big city. So we went searching for a nice restaurant. We ended up at a cool pizzeria with a very friendly waiter. He brought us a very nice margarita. As we were chatting, relaxing and enjoying our meal, all of a sudden we heard something bursting. Then I looked at my plate and saw a huge crack in it. So the waiter got me a new plate. But today still, it’s a riddle to me how this happened. It was not as if the pizza was too hot, and I had not been throwing my silver on my plate. It was very freaky to finish my pizza, since I discovered glasssplinters on the bottom of it. But I guess, by now, we could say I survived.
